Earthworks

24 October - 31st October 2026

“We are excited to present our first solo exhibition dedicated to the works of Louis Vincent.

Louis Vincent is a young artisan based in Hampshire, UK. His works are made from purely natural materials, turned by hand from native hardwoods with the greatest care.

Each piece is subsequently finished by applying multiple layers of plant-based lacquer and foraged wild clay to produce both functional and sculptural objects with a deep connection to the natural world.

We hope many of you will join us in celebrating Louis Vincent’s unique body of work, where the most delicate sensibility towards nature’s own materials meet uncompromising craftsmanship.”

“Working from his studio in Hampshire, Louis precisely turns native hardwoods into footed bowls, rimmed plates and trays. Drawing on the forms of studio pottery, his vessels suggest ceramics, while having the incredible thinness and lightness of carved wood. Their surfaces are built up through layers of lacquer and foraged local clays, creating subtle variations of colour and texture that make each piece unique.

The beauty in Louis’s work is in the finely turned forms meeting the organic qualities of the materials. Each vessel reveals something different in its surface.”

13 March - 11 April 2026

“In this exhibition we present works in pairs – either formal diptychs or pieces which sit well together – by a selection of our gallery artists.

Showing artworks in pairs has a long tradition in the visual arts. It allows the foundational idea of the work to be multiplied and amplified. Sympathetic relationships form – in composition or mark-making or palette – which can often be so strong as to make separate works seem inseparable once seen together.”

Featuring: Eleanor Bartlett, William-Josh Beck, Day Bowman, Dina Bulavina,  Harry Chrystall, Emma Cowley, Lawrence Dicks, Anthony Garratt, Jack Hilton,  Felice Hodges, Louise Ørsted Jensen, Sarah Kirk, Beth Shapeero, Amanda Sumpter and Louis Vincent.

Japanese Teahouse

New work available in-store & online.

"We are honoured to present Louis Vincent’s tea trays for io. Louis is a young British woodworker based in Romsey in Hampshire, who works with locally sourced wood in close combination with other natural materials such as local wild clay and Japanese urushi lacquer.

As pieces of lacquerware created with urushi, Louis’s works are rather unconventional. Their surfaces carry a matte, raw impression, rather than the more familiar sense of a perfectly polished, shiny exterior.

Looking closer, it is as if each piece reveals a cosmic picture; like viewing a distant planet, or witnessing a nebula on the verge of forming stars. As we begin to use them, however, they also immediately feel down to earth: beautifully functional and tactile, almost like a piece of nature itself.

Only a few tea trays remain, and we hope you will enjoy exploring these unique works for tea."
